Nothing like stating the obvious but...

Consistency is EVERYTHING.
We don’t become tight rope walkers, skip rope champions, or masters of any other craft without consistency in the practice.
For me specifically, I have issues being consistent with fitness/daily activity levels. I will work hard to make improvements and changes then equally as fast, I will take too many days off and my lack of consistency shows up in the way I feel and look. It’s been a vicious cycle for me for about 20 years.
What I've learned is that it’s the part of my brain that puts me in survival mode. It’s also the thoughts I create to self sabotage. Why do we do this to ourselves? I say we, because even if yours isn’t about fitness, it can pertain to any other number of scenarios. It’s a lack of belief in ourselves. We get in our own way of our intent, dreams and goals. Our conscious mind and our subconscious mind have their own little battleground up there.
So, what can we do to stop the madness?
I guess the first step is acknowledging it’s there, no matter how subtle. It’s the clutter that distracts us. It’s overthinking and anxiety that paralyzes us from taking productive action.
We have to step outside ourselves and take a good look in. A bird’s eye view, if you will. What are the self-destructive habits or patterns that tend to hold you back? I know mine consist of procrastination, perfectionism, and the constant over-thinking.
But let's get back to consistency. To make progress we have to dig a little deeper and self-reflect on the daily. It’s really the only way we can gain the necessary insight and perspective that will allow us to transform. It’s not easy but the effort and time it takes will be worth ALL the progress we make.
Let's consistently practice being kind, compassionate, and giving grace to ourselves so that we can offer the same to others.
